Our Trauma Recovery Pathways

Trauma Recovery Pathways

At Soteria Trauma & Recovery, we offer structured Trauma Recovery Pathways for adults and parents who have experienced domestic abuse.

A Trauma Recovery Pathway is more than a course or a support group.
It is a carefully held therapeutic journey designed to support nervous system safety, restore identity, and rebuild confidence at a pace that honours your experience.

Each pathway is facilitated by specialist trauma-informed practitioners and delivered within small, safe groups that prioritise emotional safety, choice, and dignity.

Whether you are at the beginning of recovery or ready to explore patterns more deeply, there is a pathway that can support you.

Our pathways are delivered both online and face-to-face.

How the Recovery Pathway Works

Recovery from domestic abuse rarely happens in one step.

For many people, healing begins with feeling safe and understood, before gradually moving into deeper understanding, rebuilding confidence, and creating lasting change.

For this reason, our programmes are structured as progressive stages of recovery, allowing participants to move forward at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.

Each stage focuses on a different part of the recovery journey.

Stage 1 — Foundations of Recovery
Creating emotional safety, connection, and stability.

Stage 2 — Rewriting the Pattern
Understanding the dynamics of abuse and how it may have shaped patterns in relationships and self-perception.

Stage 3 — Understanding the Child’s Story
Exploring the impact of domestic abuse on children and strengthening the parent–child relationship.

Participants can begin at the stage that feels most appropriate for their current point in recovery.

Online Participation

While some of our groups are delivered in person in North Somerset, many of our Trauma Recovery Pathways are also available online.

This means people can join our programmes from anywhere in the UK.

Our online groups are delivered through a secure platform and are carefully facilitated to ensure participants still experience the same safety, connection, and therapeutic support as our face-to-face groups.

For many people, joining online can also feel easier, particularly in the early stages of recovery.

Understanding the Child’s Story

10 Weeks | 2.5 Hours per Week

Understanding the Child’s Story focuses on the effects of domestic abuse from a child’s perspective.

Over ten weeks, we explore how children experience trauma, what safety looks like through their eyes, and how parents and caregivers can support emotional recovery.

Themes include:

• Recognising trauma responses in children
• Understanding the impact on attachment and behaviour
• Supporting emotional expression and resilience
• Strengthening the parent–child connection
• Creating a safe, secure, nurturing environment

This programme empowers parents and caregivers with insight, tools, and confidence, enabling them to support children in healing from the effects of abuse.
