To create a future where trauma is no longer a life sentence, but a story of resilience.
About
Soteria Trauma & Recovery CIC
Our Story
At Soteria Trauma & Recovery CIC, we believe that while trauma can change the course of a life, it does not have to define the end of the story.
Our organisation was founded on the principle of Soteria, a Greek word meaning deliverance, safety, and preservation.
🌿 We recognised a vital need for trauma-informed support that acknowledges the complex intersections of domestic abuse, chronic illness, and disability. We did not just want to create a service; we wanted to create a sanctuary where recovery is nurtured through compassion, professional expertise, and genuine connection.
Who We Are
We are a by-and-for grassroots organisation, led by practitioners who bring both lived and professional experience of domestic abuse and trauma. This insight shapes everything we do, allowing us to offer support that is deeply trauma-informed, compassionate, and rooted in real understanding.
As a Community Interest Company (CIC), our purpose is impact, not profit. Every resource we develop and every hour of support we deliver is reinvested into helping survivors find safety, rebuild confidence, and move forward with hope.
We believe survivors deserve services shaped by those who truly understand their experiences. Our work is guided by integrity, empathy, and a commitment to providing meaningful therapeutic support where lived experience is valued, respected, and central to our approach.
Our Core Values
Safety Above All
Safety is the foundation of recovery. We create spaces where emotional and physical safety come first, ensuring every person feels protected, respected, and in control of their own pace.
Empowerment Through Choice
Survivors are the experts of their own experiences. We walk alongside you, never ahead of you, offering tools, knowledge, and therapeutic support that help you reclaim choice, autonomy, and confidence.
Inclusive and Accessible Support
Trauma impacts people in different ways. We are committed to removing barriers so people with chronic health conditions, disabilities, neurodiversity, or additional needs can access specialist, compassionate support tailored to them.
Compassion Without Judgement
We provide a space where you are heard, believed, and met with kindness. Our practice is rooted in understanding, not criticism, and we honour each survivor’s journey with dignity and care.
Led by Lived Experience
As a by-and-for organisation, lived experience is embedded throughout our service. It guides how we listen, how we support, and how we design every aspect of our work.
Our Vision
“To create a future where trauma is no longer a life sentence, but a story of resilience.”
This vision guides every aspect of our work — from counselling and group programmes to advocacy and community partnerships.
We believe that every person has the capacity to heal, and that recovery should be accessible, compassionate, and free from judgment.
Our Mission
“To create a safe, welcoming, and empowering space where survivors can heal, connect, and build the tools to live a life beyond abuse.”
